The Elders of a church are men of spiritual experience and maturity who look after the spiritual needs of the church body. They serve as shepherds of the flock following the example of Jesus who is the Great Shepherd. The Elders are called to pray for the sick, oversee the church in humility, look after the spiritual life of the flock with truth, help settle disputes in the church with love, and to spend their time in prayer and teaching the Word (Acts 15:1-2, James 5:14, 1 Peter 5:1-4, Hebrews 13:17 and Act 6:2-4). They must lead, feed, and protect the body of believers.
