Come See Us
If you are looking for a church home or want to know more about a relationship with God, First Christian is a great place to start your journey. We love new faces and welcome visitors and new members. Feel free to attend any of our regular services or other opportunities to connect. Located at the corner of Plum Street and Bohleber Drive, our address is 504 Bohleber Drive in Carmi.
Sunday School for all ages starts at 9:00 am. A variety of adult classes gather each week providing the opportunity to get to know each other better while exploring the great truths of the Bible together. There is always time for discussion and questions making it a perfect place to apply Christian principles to everyday life. If you have children we have caring and dedicated Sunday School teachers prepared to love your kids and lead them in God’s Word. A well-staffed baby and toddler nursery is also provided. We place a high value on learning and living the Bible. At First Christian there’s a class for you, no matter your age, background or knowledge of the Bible.
Sunday morning worship begins at 10:00 am. All age groups other than baby and toddler nursery meet in the main worship auditorium. After the celebration of communion, K-5th grade children are invited to Corner-stone, a worship and teaching time designed for children, located in the children’s wing.
In the auditorium you will notice a praise band that leads our worship. You can expect a variety of songs, both old and new, that direct the heart and mind to encounter Jesus. You can also expect to engage with God’s Word through preaching that is relevant and biblical. And if you are worried about what to wear, worry no more. At First Christian we encourage you to dress comfortably as you will see people in business casual to blue jeans.
Just like the first century church, we offer communion weekly. After a communion prayer is given, a plate with a small piece of bread and small cups of juice are passed. This represents Jesus’ broken body and shed blood as explained by Jesus Himself at the Lord’s Supper. Most people have a time of quiet reflection and prayer before eating and drinking the communion. We believe communion is Christ’s meal for all who belong to Him. If you call Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior you are invited to take communion as it is passed.
We realize that it can be intimidating walking into a church building for the first time. We hope this information helps you to feel more at ease about joining us in the near future. Our prayer is that everyone who steps through the front door of First Christian leaves closer to God, with a greater understanding of Him and His kingdom.
